3 taken to hospital following Hendon Avenue fire

By News Staff

Three people were taken to hospital in stable condition, and smoke could be seen pouring out of an apartment window after a fire in the 100 block of Hendon Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the eight-storey apartment building at around 7 a.m. and had the fire under control in less than an hour, according to a news release from the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service (WFPS).

Footage of the fire sent to CityNews shows a large column of smoke coming from what appears to be a window on the building’s main floor. The news release indicated paramedics treated three people and transported them to hospital in stable condition.

No damage estimates were available, but the WFPS indicated the City of Winnipeg Emergency Social Services team was on scene to help residents who had to temporarily leave the building. A transit bus was being used to keep them warm as crews completed work on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
