Manitoba government to remove American alcohol from shelves in response to U.S. tariffs

In a direct response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs, the Manitoba government has announced it will halt the sale of American-made alcohol products.
Premier Wab Kinew made the announcement on Sunday, directing Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL) to remove all U.S. alcohol products from shelves in the province.
“Trump’s tariff tax is an attack on Canadians,” said Kinew. “We support the federal response to these tariffs, and here in Manitoba, we’re stopping the sale of American products at Manitoba liquor marts. How you choose to spend your money is one of the most important decisions you as a consumer can make. There are plenty of great Manitoba breweries and distilleries to support instead.”
The new directive will take effect on Tuesday, at which point MBLL will begin removing American products from store shelves and will cease new orders for U.S. alcohol.
Kinew also highlighted that the government plans to roll out additional support measures for Manitoba businesses and workers over the coming week to help mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
The Manitoba U.S. Trade Council will meet on Monday to discuss the effects of the tariffs and to finalize the province’s ongoing response.
Businesses or workers in Manitoba affected by the tariffs are encouraged to reach out to the Manitoba government’s tariff hotline at 1-877-827-4330 (toll-free) or 204-945-8011.
