Potential carbon monoxide poisoning: one man dead, another in critical condition in Winnipeg

One man dead and another in critical condition after potential carbon monoxide poisoning, on Friday. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a call around 2:00 p.m. and found an 84-year-old man, a 67-year-old man, and a dog unconscious inside a vehicle stuck in a snowbank.

The exhaust pipe was blocked by snow, causing the buildup of deadly carbon monoxide fumes inside the vehicle.

The dog was confirmed dead at the scene, and both men were rushed to the hospital.

The 84-year-old later died from his injuries, while the 67-year-old remains in critical condition.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) has stated that the deaths appear to be accidental, caused by the blocked exhaust pipe, and no foul play is suspected.

Police are urging the public to take precautions when idling vehicles in snowy conditions, reminding everyone to clear exhaust pipes and avoid running engines in confined spaces.
