Winnipeg police say a 36-year-old man has been charged after allegedly having a hatchet on a city bus and then threatening to kill police officers.
Around 12:35 p.m. on Jan. 17, officers responded to a report that a man on a city bus had a hatchet.
Officers met the bus at Pioneer Avenue and Main Street and were able to take the man into custody.
Through an investigation, police learned that the man got on the bus, and another passenger saw the hatchet and called police. The man did not threaten anyone with the hatchet and no one was injured.
Police seized the hatchet from the bus driver, who had reportedly confiscated it prior to officers arriving at the bus.
WPS added that while the man was in custody, he reportedly threatened to kill the officers.
Since, 36-year-old John Todd Savage has been charged with possession of a weapon, uttering threats, failing to comply with a probation order and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
