Winter storm set to hit Winnipeg

By News Staff

A brief stint of warm weather in Winnipeg is set to end.

On Thursday, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a Winter Storm Watch for the city, as an Alberta clipper is set to bring with it snow, wind and reduced visibility.

The weather system is set to roll through the Red River Valley starting Friday morning, bringing with it much colder temperatures from the North and winds that could gust as high as 90 km/h.

The national forecaster is predicting dangerous conditions with the arrival of the snowstorm, as by Friday afternoon, it will feel like – 28 C with the wind chill, creating a risk of frostbite.

Conditions on roads and sidewalks will likely deteriorate as the system arrives due to reduced visibility and blowing snow creating slippery surfaces.

Those who have to travel are advised to do so with a mobile phone and emergency kit as a precaution.
