Mounties say a 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of a man and woman in Portage La Prairie last month.

RCMP have previously said the victims, a 42-year-old man and 37-year-old woman who were in a relationship, were targeted.

Their bodies were found in a home in Portage La Prairie Dec. 1.

Authorities say a suspect was located by Manitoba First Nations Police Service in Sandy Bay Jan. 9, and taken into custody after a “short pursuit.”

Preston Whitford of Portage la Prairie was remanded into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
