Man charged after shotgun found in Winnipeg taxi

Winnipeg police say a 22-year-old man is facing charges after a shotgun was seized from a taxi Saturday morning.

WPS says around 6:15 a.m. on Jan. 11, officers were investigating a serious incident near Furby Street and Ellice Avenue.

During the investigation, officers spoke to a man in a taxi that was outside the address in question.

While speaking to the man, officers noticed a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun within the taxi. This led to the man being taken into custody.

Police note that the man was not linked to their initial investigation.

Since, a 22-year-old is facing charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, transporting a firearm contrary to regulations, and possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been tampered with.
