2 face 14 charges after chase involving stolen truck leads to drug bust: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say two people arrested after a chase involving a stolen truck that crashed into a snowbank Saturday face a combined 14 charges.
WPS says around 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 11, officers responded to a report that showed a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 that was reported stolen had been spotted in the St. James Area.
The Dodge had reportedly been reported as stolen during a break-and-enter earlier that morning from a store along McDermot Avenue near McPhillips Street.
Officers followed the truck to Portage Avenue near McCarthy Street, where the driver and a passenger fled on foot after the truck became lodged in a snowbank.
From there, officers attended Assiniboia Downs after they were notified by security that both suspects were in the VLT lounge. When officers arrived, both people were taken into custody without incident.
After both were in custody, police were able to seize the following items:
- Roughly 28 grams of Cocaine — worth around $2,750;
- Roughly 57 grams of Methamphetamine — worth around $2,825;
- Roughly $1,650 in cash;
- Scales; and
- Packaging material
Since, 24-year-old Liam John Freeman from Winnipeg, and 22-year-old Desiree Dawn Hjorleifson from Arborg, Manitoba, have been charged with a combined 14 charges.
Those include possession of a scheduled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
