Winnipeg police looking into several cat deaths

Winnipeg's major crimes unit is investigating after the bodies of 6 cats were found under a bridge on the outskirts of town. Kurt Black reports

Winnipeg police say they are investigating reports of animal cruelty after six cats were reportedly found dead in December.

The WPS says officers received several reports after someone found dead cats.

Animals have been found in bags or lying on a path underneath the bridge in some of the incidents, police say.

Officers say they met with those who found the dead animals, and they have also been in touch with the Humane Society and Animal Services.

Police note owner tags were found on some of the animals and investigators are working to find the owners.

Investigators say they are also uncertain if all the incidents are related to previous cat deaths in Pointe Douglas.

Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
