Winnipeg police say two teens have been charged in connection to an assault Friday night and another is still at large.
They say at around 7:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon near Keenleyside Street and Manhatten Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man in his 20s outside a home suffering from serious upper body injuries.
The officers provided emergency medical care before paramedics could arrive and take him to hospital in unstable condition. He was later upgraded to stable after significant medical treatment.
With the assistance of the K9 Unit and information provided by witnesses, officers tracked and found three boys matching the suspects’ descriptions.
But upon being spotted, the youth ran from police, leading to a short foot chase. However, officers managed to arrest two of the three — one on Union Street and one on Harbison Avenue West. The third’s whereabouts are unknown at this time.
Once the two were in custody, officers were able to find and seize weapons.
It is believed that as the victim was leaving the home he was socializing in, unknown individuals from the upper suite chased him outside and attacked him with bear spray and a machete before fleeing.
Police have since charged a 14-year-old with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and a 16-year-old with aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon, and five counts of failing to comply with a sentence.
