Fire on Selkirk Avenue leaves one person dead and another in critical condition

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating a fire that broke out on 1400 block of Selkirk Avenue on Monday, where one person was taken to hospital in unstable condition and another pronounced dead.

A two-and-a-half storey duplex caught fire around 10:53 p.m. The fire was declared under control at 12:15 a.m., the City of Winnipeg said in a release.

The occupants managed to leave the building before fire crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters entered the house; they located one individual and brought them out. The individual was treated by on-scene paramedics and transported to a hospital in critical condition. They were later pronounced deceased

Police say, one other resident was assessed and transported to a hospital in unstable condition.

One cat was located deceased, police say.

The fire is under investigation.
