84-year-old man struck and killed in Westwood

Winnipeg police say an 84-year-old pedestrian died in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in the city’s far west Wednesday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened on Byrd Avenue and Westwood Drive shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition, where he died of his injuries.

Authorities say the 86-year-old man at the wheel of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. No charges have been laid.

The WPS traffic division is investigating. Police are looking for any video or dash cam footage of the incident.
