Winnipeg man facing charges in connection to vehicle theft

A 35-year-old is in custody in connection to a vehicle theft in northeast Winnipeg early Sunday morning, police say.

WPS says that at around 1:35 a.m., as officers were patrolling, they noticed a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Niverville, Manitoba, on Dec. 8, being driven in a parking lot along Notre Dame Avenue.

Police followed the vehicle, a 2013 Ford F150; however, the driver attempted to flee through the Weston and Keewatin neighbourhoods before losing control and crashing into a snowbank near Pacific Avenue and Oddy Street.

This resulted in officers approaching the vehicle and trying to take the driver into custody. While this was happening, officers say they tased the driver because he was being uncooperative.

After the man was in custody, officers seized 3D-printed brass knuckles and break-in tools.

WPS also learned that the man was prohibited from driving across Canada.

Police say the 35-year-old man, who they aren’t naming, is facing charges of possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, operation of a conveyance while prohibited, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of a crime over $5,000.
