Winnipeg police say a 24-year-old man has been charged with assaulting peace officers with a stolen vehicle during the week.
Officers say they noticed a white 2023 Nissan Qashqai, reported stolen from a home on Dec. 8, while patrolling near Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street on Dec. 12.
They decided to follow the Qashqai as it drove through downtown Winnipeg, before turning down a back lane near Home and Arlington streets.
The officers reportedly tried to follow down the back lane to contain the Qashqai but were rammed by the suspect vehicle.
Due to the collision, the Qashqai became stuck in a snowbank, and officers were able to take two people into custody.
Since, 24-year-old Darcy Jace Seymour has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000.
A 23-year-old woman also taken into custody was released with no charges.
