Vacant home on Redwood Avenue goes up in flames, will be demolished
Another vacant building in Winnipeg has gone up in flames.
At roughly 11:28 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service were called to the 200 block of Redwood Avenue where they found a vacant house fully on fire.
Smoke and flames were coming from the house as crews arrived on site, and the fire conditions prevented firefighters from entering. However, they were able to work the blaze from outside of the home, declaring it under control at 12:47 a.m.

Crews remained on scene Wednesday morning, targeting hotspots. Due to damage sustained during the fire, an emergency demolition has been ordered. The home was also damaged by a fire in December of 2022.
Residents are being cautioned about icy conditions in the area, as water used to fight the fire has frozen, creating slick conditions. Crews will monitor the situation and work to de-ice as needed.
A news release from the city is advising the public to call 911 if they see anyone accessing vacant homes, or removing boards from windows or doors on the building. If boards have been removed, but no one is actively entering the building, residents are asked to call 311.
