Winnipeg police officers save family from Burrows Avenue building fire
Winnipeg police say five people are lucky to be alive after a blaze in a multi-use building Friday morning.
WPS says just after 6 a.m., officers patrolling along Burrows Avenue noticed a fire and heavy smoke coming from a building.
The officers believed people were still inside the building.

Police say they were able to get inside and then alerted a family living in a basement suite.
The family, which consisted of two adults and two children, a store employee, and the officers were all treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
Firefighters were able to battle the fire and declared it under control.
Police say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
