It appears key information about the city’s upcoming budget has been made public ahead of schedule.
CBC News reports next week’s budget delivery will bring with it an increase in property taxes of 5.95 per cent.
However, while the Mayor’s office is keeping mum as to whether or not the numbers are accurate out of respect for the process, the message from the city’s top elected official is work on the budget is ongoing.
“Winnipeggers expect us to invest in the services and infrastructure a modern city needs, while managing the challenges of inflation and rapid population growth,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham’s spokesman Colin Fast,
“Winnipeg has the lowest municipal property taxes of any major city in Canada, and that won’t change. We’re still finalizing a balanced budget that meets these expectations, and details will be shared next week when it’s tabled.”
