Senior dead after house fire in town southeast of Winnipeg: RCMP

A 78-year-old woman is dead after a fire at a home in a town southeast of Winnipeg Monday night.
Steinbach RCMP say officers were called to the home in Richer around 8:30 p.m. They arrived to find the Richer fire department and EMS already on scene.
Officers learned there was a person unaccounted for still inside the home. Mounties say the senior was pronounced dead on scene.
A 14-year-old old boy was able to escape the blaze, RCMP say. He was taken by STARS to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
Steinbach RCMP are investigating.
Richer is about 60 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
