Pembina Trails School Division restoring services after cyber attack

The Pembina Trails School Division says it’s dealing with a cyber attack.

In a notice sent to parents and other members of the school community Wednesday, the division explained its computer system took a major hit because of a “cyber security incident.”

Pembina Trails said it took “immediate steps” to secure its network because of the attack and that it is in the process of getting things back online. It is investigating the incident.

The school division noted Wednesday morning it was able to restore phone lines in all but one school, adding classes continue with as little effect on students as possible.

Members of the school community are advised to be cautious of suspicious-looking content or activities on the network. Pembina Trails School Division says it’s working with a cyber security management firm specializing in this type of incident.
