Investigation launched into woman’s death following medical emergency at Manitoba dentist
The southwest Manitoba dentistry practice at the centre of a woman’s death following a medical emergency during a dental procedure is cooperating with an investigation, officials say.
The Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) says the woman experienced a medical emergency during an appointment in Morden, Man., on Wednesday. She was rushed to hospital where she later died.
CityNews has reached out to people who have identified themselves as family members of the woman, but did not immediately receive a response.

Officials say the matter is now being examined closely.
“Going forward we’re in discussions to understand the events as they took place, so that we can further understand the facts as they led to this unfortunate outcome,” said MDA president Dr. Daron Baxter.
Baxter could not confirm details of the procedure.
“I will say that the dentist involved has been cooperative and in discussion with the Manitoba Dental Association, as would be the regular established protocols for any serious incident that has occurred in our community,” said Baxter.
CityNews has confirmed the appointment took place at Boundary Trails Dental Centre.

Practice manager Amy Henderson said in a statement the team is deeply saddened by the passing of the patient, and it’s cooperating with the investigation by the dental association.
Baxter says although the dentist involved is still able to practise, there is now a restriction placed on their licence.
Five dentists in Morden are registered with the Manitoba Dental Association. Four have no licence restrictions; one dentist in Morden has a restriction on the licence regarding administration of local anesthetic and sedation services.
Southern Health-Santé Sud, the health authority for the Morden area, says it has an active investigation underway.
Morden is roughly 130 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.
