Red River College enhances security measures at exchange district campus

Red River College (RRC) is increasing security and access control at its Exchange District Campus (EDC) beginning December 2, 2024.
New security measures include the placement of security officers at the main entrances of key buildings, including the Roblin Centre, Manitou a bi Bii daziigae, and the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute. All other campus entry points will be locked.
As part of the enhanced security, staff and students will be required to carry valid college ID cards to access the campus starting in January 2025.
Those without an ID will be instructed to obtain one before the holiday break. Visitors will have limited access to public areas such as the Campus Store and Tim Hortons, unless they have a stated purpose for their visit.
The changes are part of a broader plan to expand swipe card access across campus and restrict entry to non-public spaces.
New signage will be installed to designate areas accessible only to RRC staff and students, and security will monitor and enforce these restrictions.
While these access changes will not impact students or staff until the new year, RRC encourages everyone to carry their IDs at all times.
Further details on the implementation of these measures, including special event access, will be shared in early December.
