It was a magical night full of bright lights, Christmas cheer, and of course Santa Claus, as thousands of people made their way to downtown Winnipeg, to kick off the holiday season at the 2024 Manitoba Hydro Santa Claus Parade.
“It’s nice because the community is also gathering right now and were all together celebrating the Christmas season,” said a Santa Claus parade goer.
Starting at Portage Avenue and Main Street, the parade headed west before turning south on Memorial, and ending on York Avenue. Featuring over 60 floats this year, the parade had the largest number of entries since 2019, and the crowd loved being surrounded by the Christmas spirit.
“Everything, the ambiance, the celebration, the good vibes, we love it here. A lot of people and people work hard to make us smile and happy and have the holiday spirit so that’s nice,” said a Santa Claus parade goer.
Established in 1909, the Santa Claus Parade has been a tradition in Winnipeg for over 100 years, and the people we spoke to say they are especially excited to see the jolly man in red.
“This is my third straight Santa parade, and we love it here,” said a Santa Claus parade goer.
“It’s good to have everyone coming out and it’s lovely when communities come together to celebrate,” said a Santa Claus parade goer.
