Winnipeg police say a 60-year-old woman is facing charges after a “dispute over property” escalated on Saturday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 61-year-old woman sustained multiple lacerations and injuries to her upper body. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Authorities say it happened around 7 p.m. at an apartment complex on Dufferin Avenue in Lord Selkirk Park.

Investigators believe the suspect showed up at the victim’s home to confront her over the property dispute.

“This dispute escalated with the suspect assaulting the victim in the upper body with a heavy metal object and a small edged weapon before fleeing the area with the victim’s cell phone,” WPS alleges in a news release.

Officers arrested the suspect in the common area of a hotel on Main Street that evening around 9:30 p.m.

The accused has been charged with robbery and two counts of possession of a weapon. She was detained in custody.

The WPS major crimes unit is investigating.
