Suspect forces woman to work in sex trade for over a year: Winnipeg police
A 34-year-old woman is accused of forcing another woman to work as an escort for more than a year.
The Winnipeg Police Service says the victim, a woman in her 20s, was forced to work in the sex trade between September 2023 and October 2024.
The victim says she was groomed by the accused, who knew her previously. She was allegedly given gifts such as clothing, jewelry and drugs.

The accused then insisted on being paid back for the gifts, forcing the victim to work as an escort, according to police.
Police allege the accused set up meetings using online advertisements, arranging for the victim to provide sexual services for money. The accused took all of the proceeds that were received by the victim, police add.
An investigation began last month when the victim reported the coercive relationship to police.
On Monday, Winnipeg’s Michelle Victoria Comber was charged with procuring a person to provide sexual services; material benefit from sexual services; trafficking in persons; and failure to comply with a probation order. She was detained in custody.
