Man bear sprayed, run over by own vehicle in carjacking: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a man was run over by his own vehicle after it was stolen from him on Sunday.

WPS says officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft and assault around 2:06 a.m. near Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a 39-year-old man who had been bear sprayed.

Police learned the man had been waiting from a friend near the intersection when the driver’s door of his vehicle was opened and he was sprayed with bear spray. The man was then removed from his vehicle, along with his dog, and the vehicle was stolen. While fleeing the scene, the robber drove over the victim.

Paramedics attended the scene and treated the man for minor injuries.

The man was unable to identify his attacker, however, police say nearby witnesses described the perpetrator as a man around five-foot-eight.

The vehicle was later recovered by police on Edmonton Street.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
