Man stabbed by truck driver after yelling at him to slow down: Winnipeg police

A 45-year-old man needed to be hospitalized after Winnipeg police say he was stabbed by the driver of a stolen truck after yelling at him to slow down.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the victim was smoking outside his apartment on Magnus Avenue with a friend on Saturday around 9:08 p.m. when a truck sped by.

“When the victim yelled to slow down, the truck stopped. An unknown male exited, stabbed the victim and fled in the vehicle,” police allege.

Police say officers arrived to find the victim with serious injuries to his abdomen. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

WPS says officers spotted the truck – which they say was stolen from a home on Manitoba Avenue – around 2 a.m. Sunday driving in the Weston area.

“Police attempted a traffic stop, but the truck took off, getting stuck on the railway tracks at Gallagher Avenue near Electra Street,” WPS said in a news release.

A female passenger was taken into custody, according to police, but the male driver fled.

Investigators with the major crimes unit have identified a suspect, and a warrant for his arrested was submitted.
