Man in 70s shot in head with BB gun; 3 youths arrested

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a man in his 70s was shot in the head with a BB gun downtown on Monday, and three youths are in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened shortly after midnight near Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue.

Police say the man was leaving a restaurant and walking along Hargrave when he was shot “out of nowhere.” Three youths reportedly fled the area.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Witnesses provided suspect descriptions to police. Two boys, aged 12 and 14, and a 13-year-old girl were taken into custody. They are facing assault and firearm-related charges and remain in police custody.

Investigators with the major crimes unit believe the suspects were randomly shooting the BB gun, and think there may be other victims who have not yet been identified.

Anyone with information, or a possible victim, is asked to call 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
