Winnipeg dog attack sends 4 to hospital

Winnipeg police say a large, loose dog attacked and seriously injured four people on Tuesday, including a 16-year-old.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 48-year-old woman, a 67-year-old man, and a 73-year-old man were also injured in the attack in the 100 block of Stadacona Street.

All victims suffered serious upper-body injuries and were treated in hospital, police say. All are stable and none of the victims’ injuries were life-threatening.

Before police arrived, WPS says bystanders corralled the dog.

Arriving officers determined it was necessary for public safety to shoot the dog, who they say was still demonstrating aggressive behaviour.

The owner of the dog as well as Animal Services were notified of the incident.
