14-year-old boy in custody after fatal shooting on Manitoba First Nation

Police say a 14-year-old boy turned himself in to police in connection with the shooting death of a 35-year-old man in O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation on Monday.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP says officers were called to a home around 1 a.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The officers helped two residents with life-saving measures until EMS arrived, but the man died of his injuries on scene.

Authorities say the 14-year-old, who is from the community, approached officers on scene and turned himself in a few hours later. He was charged with second-degree murder.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP, RCMP major crime services and RCMP forensic identification services are investigating.

O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation is about 225 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
