One-to-one apprentice ratio in Manitoba begins next week

The Manitoba government is reinstating the 1:1 apprentice-to-journeyperson ratio, after being changed to a 2:1 ratio 4 years ago. Mitchell Ringos reports.

The Manitoba government is restoring a rule meant to keep apprentices safe while they learn their trade.

There is to be one journeyperson for each apprentice on work sites starting Oct 30.

The one-to-one ratio had first been put in place in 1999 after a worker was killed while working unsupervised.

But the governing NDP says the previous Progressive Conservative government compromised worker safety when it removed that requirement.
