Inmate dies in custody at Stony Mountain Institution

An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution died on October 20, 2024, while in custody. The inmate, who was 62 years old, had been serving a sentence of 7 years, 10 months, and 4 days since May 15, 2023.

Their name is being kept confidential due to a court-ordered publication ban aimed at protecting the victims’ identities.

Officials have notified the inmate’s next of kin about the situation.

In line with standard protocol, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will investigate the circumstances of the death. The police and the coroner have also been informed.
