Winnipeg fire crews battle pair of fires Saturday evening

By CityNews Staff

Winnipeg fire crews were busy Saturday evening, dealing with a pair of blazes in less than an hour.

Beginning at 6:09 p.m., crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant commercial structure on the 900 block of Logan Avenue.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the building but due to damage from previous fires, it was not safe for them to enter. Instead, they launched a defensive attack, using hose lines from the exterior to extinguish the fire.

Then just over 30 minutes later, fire crews were called to a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 200 block of Laura Street, less than two kilometres from the original blaze.

At this scene, crews found both smoke and flames coming from the home. But ultimately, deemed it safe enough to enter, declaring the fire under control at 7:22 p.m.

No injuries were reported at either blaze, as for the cause, both fires remain under investigation.
