Winnipeg rehabilitation program seeking help as it nears capacity

Adult & Teen Challenge, which is a faith-based substance abuse rehabilitation program is desperate for help.
Regional Development Director Keith Stewart says that their five live-in residence campuses and 19 in-community programs are close to reaching capacity.
“Our in-residence programs are operating very near capacity so the needs area great this year,” said Stewart.
“We’re looking at a shortfall as we enter that final quarter of about $370,000.”
Stewart says to keep these programs running, they will require more funding. And while they are getting by for now, he says public support will be needed to fund the almost $400,000 price figure by the end of the year.
He says while the organization does have a few business ventures that help supply the ministry with revenue streams, they primarily rely on the generosity of the community
“We don’t want to get into situations where we are not able to accept people when they are ready for recovery, you know we don’t want to get into situations when people are coming to the community office and not getting the help they need,” said Stewart.
Their situation got worse by Monday, the organization was vandalized when someone threw bricks at their facility located at 414 Edmonton Street.
“The needs are great right now and whether that’s coming out of COVID or societal trends in general it’s very real.”
