Manitoba RCMP following up on leads as search continues for missing six-year-old boy

By News Staff

The search for a missing non-verbal six-year-old boy in Shamattawa First Nation continues this weekend, as additional resources arrived in the northeastern Manitoba community Saturday.

“Pretty much every searcher here is a parent,” said Sgt. Paul Manaigre, Manitoba RCMP. “As a parent, this is your worst nightmare.”

Johnson Redhead was last seen on Wednesday morning, at his school’s breakfast program but did not show up for class.

The RCMP search and rescue has been joined by several volunteers from Winnipeg volunteer search and rescue to assist in the search along side members of the Canadian Rangers.

On Saturday an RCMP service dog and a pair of drones joined the search, with a helicopter expected to arrive once weather permits.

Manaigre, says they’re leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of returning the six-year-old to his family safe and sound.

“We are getting the odd tips of locals finding prints here or footprints there but we can’t say for sure that it is his or not,” explained Manaigre. “But we are following up on those leads.”

“We are not ruling anything out now,” he added. “The idea is to cover everything.”

The RCMP is urging anyone with information about Redhead’s whereabouts to call the Shamattawa detachment or crime-stoppers.
