2 charged in abduction, homicide of Ontario man: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police says two people have been charged in connection to the death of 22-year-old Zeyad Shammo.
WPS responded to a report of a missing man around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 10, on Bridge Lake Drive near Red Spruce Road.
It is believed the man had been abducted the previous day.
WPS says in the early morning hours of Sept. 13, investigators found the man dead near Bristol Avenue and Rue St. Luc.
The man was later identified as Shammo, and police confirmed he was from Ontario.
WPS began investigating the death as a homicide and two suspects who were known to the victim were identified by officers.
Both were taken into custody and have since been charged.
WPS says 26-year-old Sonny Balemba and 26-year-old Robert James Chaykowski have been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion.
Chaykowski was also charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order.
His death is considered a homicide, and two suspects that were known to the victim were identified by investigators and taken into custody with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team (TST).
