1 in critical condition after being trapped inside burning home: WFPS

By News Staff

A person trapped inside a burning Winnipeg home needed to be rescued by firefighters before they were taken to hospital in critical condition Tuesday.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews were called to the home on Young Street near Sargent Avenue shortly after 3 a.m.

While other residents had managed to escape on their own before firefighters arrived, crews were told someone was trapped inside.

After being pulled out by WFPS, the occupant was assessed by paramedics on scene before going to hospital.

“While some firefighters were working to remove the occupant, another crew launched a fire attack, using hose lines to put the fire out,” the City of Winnipeg said in a news release.

The blaze was declared under control by 3:36 a.m. The cause remains under investigation.

The city’s emergency social services team has been tasked with helping displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
