Winnipeg firefighters deployed to 3 house fires within an hour Saturday night

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service fought 3 fires overnight Saturday on William Avenue West, Sherbrook Street and Langside Street.

Winnipeg fire crews responded to three house fires in quick succession on Saturday night, including one at a vacant West End property.

Firefighters were first called to a two-storey home on William Avenue West near Oddy Street at 8:37 p.m., arriving to find heavy smoke and flames. The fire was brought under control at 9:34 p.m.

The residents had fled the home before crews arrived. One person was assessed by paramedics on scene but was not taken to hospital.

Minutes after the William Avenue West fire was declared under control, firefighters received a call about a blaze at a vacant two-and-a-half storey house on Sherbrook Street near Sargent Avenue.

Crews fought the fire from the inside, declaring it under control by 10:14 p.m.

At 9:42 p.m., WFPS crews were then needed on Langside Street near Ellice Avenue for a fire at a two-storey home.

Firefighters launched an offensive fire attack and declared that blaze under control shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Residents had evacuated the home before crews arrived, and there were no injuries reported.

The cause of all three fires is under investigation.
