Man, 23, arrested after stabbing on Winnipeg Transit bus

By News Staff

Winnipeg police have charged a 23-year-old man after another man was stabbed on a Transit bus last week.

Investigators believe a group of individuals began an altercation with the victim, who was not known to them, on a bus near Main Street and Selkirk Avenue on Aug. 13.

The altercation escalated, and one of the members of the group stabbed the victim, seriously injuring him in the upper body, according to police.

Winnipeg police say the group of individuals then exited the bus.

The 30-year-old victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

On Sunday, members of the WPS Major Crimes Unit arrested a suspect on Salter Street.

Ross Lapeire has been charged with assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order. He was detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
