Winnipeg police say two teenage girls were physically and sexually assaulted at a downtown hotel room on Saturday.

A 54-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges, including sex assault and forcible confinement.

Both teens were taken to hospital in stable condition.

Winnipeg Police Service investigators say the accused approached the two teenagers and their adult friend on Main Street on Friday.

“The three females attended to a hotel suite with the male where he provided them with alcohol and drugs. The three females left later that night,” police said in a news release.

The following day around 7 a.m., police say the man approached the two teenagers on Main Street

“They attended back to the hotel where the accused provided more alcohol and drugs,” WPS said. “While inside the suite he prevented them from leaving and they were physically and sexually assaulted.”

One of the teenagers managed to leave the room and she contacted police, telling officers her friend was still in the room with the suspect.

Officers say they arrived at the hotel around 8:30 a.m.

“When police arrived the male suspect fled out of the second-story window,” police said. “He was taken into custody and subsequently transported to hospital in stable condition.”

Kelly Trent Schoffer was charged and detained in custody “as he was on parole.”

The sex crimes unit is investigating.
