1 dead, 2 in hospital as Winnipeg police respond to 3 pedestrian collisions in 7 hours

Winnipeg has already surpassed 2023 for the number of pedestrians and cyclists killed during motor vehicle collisions, with still four months remaining in the year.

Winnipeg police officers responded to three pedestrian-involved collisions within seven hours of each other overnight Friday.

Of those collisions, one was fatal and two resulted in people being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Winnipeg police say a woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle Saturday morning.

Investigators say around 1:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of an injured woman along the Harry Lazarenko Bridge.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 49-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries, however, paramedics with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) declared her dead a short time later.

Through an initial investigation, police believe the woman had been lying on the bridge prior to being hit by the vehicle.

Police note the driver remained at the scene and spoke to investigators.

Winnipeg police say the first pedestrian-involved collision happened around 9:45 p.m. on Friday.

Officers responded to a report of an injured person at Smithfield Avenue and Main Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 57-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.

WFPS also attended the scene and took the man to hospital in critical condition.

Police were able to speak to the driver following the collision, and it is believed the man was crossing Main Street against a red light when he was hit..

Winnipeg police say the third pedestrian-involved collision happened around 4 a.m.

Officers responded to a report that a man was injured at Pembine Highway and Adamar Road.

When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from serious injuries.

Paramedics were also at the scene and took the man to hospital in critical condition.

Through initial stages of an investigation, police believe the man was talking across Pembine Highway when he was hit.

WPS notes the driver remained at the scene and spoke to investigators.
