Sea Bears gear up for CEBL playoffs

Following a regular season full of ups and downs, the Winnipeg Sea Bears aim to prove the doubters wrong in CEBL playoff opener against Calgary.

With the start of the CEBL’s playoffs set to tip off on Friday, the Winnipeg Sea Bears were on the court Wednesday in preparation for their matchup with the Calgary Surge.

Now, after what can only be described as a Jekyll & Hyde regular season, the team is looking forward to wiping the slate clean and proving they remain a title contender.

Following a pair of losses on the road, the Sea Bears limp into the post-season as the fourth seed in the west.

While a force to be reckoned with playing in front of their fans at Canada Life Centre, the Sea Bears have just one win on the road all year and will need to become road warriors in a hurry if they are to keep their season alive.

“They are a good team, we gotta go in there we got to perform on the road it’s not something we have done but if there is a time to do it, it’s obviously now,” said Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson, a guard for the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

Sea Bears head coach Mike Taylor has preached the importance of playing a complete 48 minutes. Specifically on the defensive glass, where Calgary dominated in their most recent meeting en route to 17 second-chance points, the difference in a tight 4-point Calgary victory.

“There is no tomorrow, it’s about getting it done now together, we are really excited about the opportunity,” said Taylor.

“Guys we have all the potential in the world we can beat one all of these teams, it’s about putting it together on the road and being the best version of our team in Calgary on Friday.”

The Sea Bears will now travel to Calgary for Friday’s do-or-die clash, with tip-off set for 8:30 p.m.
