Former Winnipegger attempts to set a Guinness World Record

A Guinness World Record attempt that started at Princess Auto Stadium on July 11 could see a former Winnipegger make history, by visiting all nine stadiums in the shortest amount of time.

For the last eight days, Chris Tymofichuk has been travelling Canada with one goal, to break a Guinness World Record, by visiting every CFL stadium. The current record holder is Bobby Dubeau who did it in 2023 with a time of 362 hours and 51 minutes.

“It includes wearing a GPS on your body for the two weeks so they can verify where you’ve been, I need eyewitness statements from individuals sitting near me that said I was in my seat at kickoff, and I stayed there until the final whistle for each game,” explained Tymofichuk.

While Tymofichuk says he is on track to beat the current record, he says it hasn’t been easy.

“We played a little bit of plane, trains, and automobiles, with taxis and car rentals and battling the Montreal traffic and there was a point I thought this record ‘We are not going to do it, we are not going to make it.’”

Tymofichuk did make it to the game with 17 minutes to spare and has already made it to Ottawa for the second-last game of his record attempt.

And while the adventure is simply meant to be fun, and likely attempted by others, during the cross-country travel, Tymofichuk has also been carrying a bucket everywhere he goes in hopes of raising awareness and donations for CFLFansFightCancer.

“There was one lady in Vancouver who donated to the bucket, she looked at me and said I’m going for surgery on Friday thank you for doing this, that sets the perspective, the record’s great, but that’s not what’s important on this journey.”

Currently, Tymofichu has raised $21,000 and has only one stop left in his record-breaking tour with a game this Saturday in Toronto, saying he should beat the old record unless weather delays the game.

“If we can hold that record for a day or more we can say hey we held a Guinness World Record at some point and that’s kind of cool.”
