22-year-old charged in fatal assault at Stony Mountain Institution

Manitoba RCMP says a 22-year-old inmate has been charged in connection to a fatal assault at Stony Mountain Institution earlier this week.

Tuesday, police said a 37-year-old man has died of his injuries following an assault, and it was being investigated as a homicide.

Officers were called to the federal facility, about 25 kilometres from Winnipeg, at 7:30 p.m. for the report of a serious assault.

Police say they arrived to find the victim suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died.

Nukota Peters, 22, has since been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.
