4 Winnipeg minors charged in early morning break in

Winnipeg police say four minors have been charged and another has been referred to the Manitoba Turnabout program, in connection to a commercial break-in.

WPS says around 1 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to a report of an after-hours break in at a store along Ellice Avenue.

Reports indicated a group of youths smashed a front window, then damaged the inside of the store, stole some items, and left.

Roughly half an hour later, police received another report indicating that a group had set a fire inside a gazebo along Sargent Avenue.

Searching the nearby area, officers were able to find the group and took them into custody.

Four boys between 12 and 14 years old have since been charged with offences related to commercial breaking and entering and arson.

A nine-year-old, who was also taken into custody, was referred the Turnabout program.
