Winnipeg police searching North End home linked to 2021 disappearance of Cody Harper

There has been an update in the missing person case of Cody Harper, who was last seen in Winnipeg in 2021, with potential new leads forthcoming.

Winnipeg police are executing a search warrant at a house on Selkirk Avenue near Charles Street regarding evidence linked to the 28-year-old’s disappearance.

The search of the property will be conducted by the WPS missing persons unit, the forensic services unit and the RCMP. Authorities do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

Harper was last seen in the Elmwood area on Oct. 13, 2021, and reported missing one month later. Investigators and family members have continued to search for answers regarding his whereabouts.

“We’re talking almost three years ago now. This is a long-term investigation,” said Const. Claude Chancy, a WPS public information officer.

Chancy believes it’s one of the first search warrants used in connection to Harper’s disappearance. He would not say what new information led to the search or what exactly police are searching for.

Investigators could be seen combing the backyard with shovels in hand on Wednesday afternoon.

“We want to alert the public to let them know there is no danger to their safety, however they will see several vehicles including the IDENT unit, as well as the RCMP,” Chancy told reporters.

While the search is happening in the city, Chancy says the RCMP were brought in to utilize technology that will assist the search.

Police confirmed Harper’s loved ones are aware of the development in the investigation.

“The missing person unit has been in contact with the family, so they are aware of parts of the investigation, including the search warrant today,” Chancy said.
