Fatal assault at Stony Mountain Institution

Police say a 37-year-old man has died of his injuries following an assault at Stony Mountain Institution on Monday evening.

Headingley RCMP are calling it a homicide investigation.

Officers were called to the federal facility, about 25 kilometres from Winnipeg, at 7:30 p.m. for the report of a serious assault.

Police say they arrived to find the victim suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died.

The RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating.
