Man charged after breaking into home and sexually assaulting woman

Winnipeg police say a 39-year-old man has been charged in connection to an alleged sexual assault on July 8.

WPS received a report that a man had approached a woman along Portage Avenue. The pair had a conversation before the man lured the woman to a nearby home.

Reports indicate that the man then broke into the home, and then barricaded the woman inside, preventing her from leaving.

It is believed he then physically and sexually assaulted her.

The woman also told police she was rendered unconscious at one point, and that the man threatened to kill her.

The woman was eventually able to flee the scene, and she called police.

Police attended the home, and they were able to find the man sleeping inside. He was then taken into custody.

WPS have since charged 39-year-old Kyle Thomas Quill with eight charges including sexual assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order, to name a few.

Winnipeg police say supports are available for survivors of sexual assault. Those supports include the WPS victim services, which can be reached at 204-986-6450 and the Klinic Sexual Assault Crisis Line, which can be reached at 204-786-8631.
