A seven-year-old girl drowned while swimming with a group of children in northern Manitoba on Sunday, police say.

Gods Lake Narrows RCMP say the kids, aged five to 12, were swimming on the south side of Gods Lake around 3:40 p.m. when the girl went under the water.

Police say the other children ran to get help. An adult pulled her out of the water and began first aid, according to RCMP.

She was taken to a nursing station, where she was pronounced dead.

Gods Lake Narrows RCMP are investigating.
