Manslaughter charge laid in fatal Saint James assault: police

A 23-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a 43-year-old man’s death on Monday in Winnipeg’s Saint James neighbourhood.

Winnipeg police say Eugene Rob Ryan Little was physically assaulted when a verbal dispute escalated.

Police say officers arrived at King Edward Street near Ellice Avenue around 12:15 a.m. to find Little with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.

Officers arrested a man “in the vicinity,” according to WPS. They say the suspect and victim knew each other.

Dion Tyson Jamie Wood was charged and detained in custody.
