Sea Bears release Teddy Allen following 39 point game

The reigning Canadian Elite Basketball League MVP and current league scoring leader Teddy Allen has been released by the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

The move comes as a shock to many in Winnipeg, especially with the number of points Allen has managed to put up for the team.

“Teddy Allen has been a valued member of our team, and we sincerely appreciate his contributions during his tenure with the Sea Bears. However, after careful consideration and many discussions, it has become evident that there is a misalignment of values and vision of the path forward for the club,” said head coach and general manager Mike Taylor.

Team president Jason Smith added, “The decision to release Teddy Allen was very difficult, however it was made with the best interests of the organization in mind. We remain committed to maintaining a cohesive and forward-thinking team environment that aligns with our core values and objectives. Our organization dedicates itself to upholding high standards of team, integrity, respect and consideration for our community.”

The Sea Bears lost their Father’s Day game against the Edmonton Stingers 97-87, and have started their season with a 3-5 record.

Allen led the team in scoring with 39 points against the Stingers. Justin Wright-Foreman picked up 22, while the rest of Winnipeg’s starting lineup scored four.

“The Winnipeg Sea Bears thank Teddy Allen for his dedication and efforts and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said the team in a statement.
